As we head into our Village’s one year anniversary we are celebrating with a capstone accomplishment of nearly 150,000 pieces of PPE donated, which includes fabric face masks, KN95s, refurbished N95s, face shields, protective overalls, 115 gallons of hand sanitizer, and latex gloves. None of this could have been done without our tremendous group effort of giving and love.

ITAV is honored to receive a $1,000 donation from a fellow PPE community called Shield the Bay, organized by a team of students in the U.C. Berkeley School of Public Health and led by Assistant Adjunct Professor Jaspal Sandhu, and Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Michael Zuerch. They blended human-centered design and a commitment to equity to successfully manufacture face shields to donate to many healthcare organizations including Alameda Health Systems. When Shield the Bay closed their operations this month they selected ITAV to keep fulfilling their mission of providing PPE to vulnerable populations. We sincerely thank Shield the Bay for their tremendous work during the last year and their very generous donation. The donation will be used immediately to purchase pretty fabric for more fabric masks which are still in high demand.

Some of us have been vaccinated and those eligible are on their way to being safe. The Biden-Harris administration has announced milestone dates for May and the 4th of July. Yet now is the most crucial time to stay protected with the hope of preventing a fourth surge....
